Ben Pepin, fisherman extraordinaire!

20091227A - Hot dolphin action

Beautiful dolphins we had off our bow. It was awesome, we could see them swimming through the crystal clear water!

20091221E - Mexican welcoming committee

This sea lion was persistent! He kept following our boat as we were leaving the dock. It was pretty cool :)

Saggitaire's account of our adventures

SAGITTAIRE is the most excellent ride Tiff & I got from San Diego to La Paz, MX. They have updated their blog with our adventures, check it out at

http://sv-sagittaire.com/Sagittaire_s_Log.html

We're mentioned in the late October to late November 2009 entries. Dianne (The first mate & author of the blog) cracks me up. She hates weather underway, loves her husband Mike despite his need to go to sea with her onboard, her dog and cooking (which she is awesome at). She reminds me a lot of my mother, so we can't let them get together...but it's good reading!

We're also in the ships photos - you can find them at

Check it out!

I have nothing against firing off old flares for "training". In fact, I think it's a lot of fun. But please, if you're in anchorage, try to restrain yourself. I really don't want to see the boats around you go down in flames because your flare embers landed on them...
Well, this sucks: Greg's sunglasses just got knocked off his shirt and went bouncedy-bounce overboard... :( They were his favorites.

We're on land!

We are currently in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle(?!), near Puerto Vallarta. We're staying at a local tavern, run by a guy named Philo, who's a former cruiser himself. It's been pretty interesting! We've got internet access, and are working on updating our past videos on the blog, so stay tuned!

Multimedia message

You drop your mom off at the airport. Your aunt drops you off at the marina and drives away. Watching that car drive away and knowing it isn't coming back...that's a wierd feelimg.

We're in San Diego!

We just got to San Diego last night! It's hard to believe this is all real and that we're leaving on Monday! We stopped for dinner on the drive down, and I reached into my pocket for my keys, and for the first time in a very long time, I don't have any! I left my entire keychain (that only has my car key and Greg's car key) in San Jose because I don't need them. It is very wierd!

Today we went out sailing with Mike and Dianne and their son and his friends. It was a great trip, and a relaxing way to start to become familiar with their boat. The afternoon was spent sailing around the San Diego harbor, and then after we got back to the boat, Greg and I headed for West Marine and the Pacific Puddle Jump meeting. The meeting wasnMt exactly what we expected, but it was a great way to start to put out feelers about looking for a boat to crew on to get to the Polynesian Islands. Exciting stuff! Hopefully we'll find the right thing and be able to make the trip. Wish us luck!

Oh, and today was my birthday :)

Our poor kitty on the way to the airport

Well, the cat has been shipped off to my mom in FL... She was not a happy camper, but she is surprisingly tolerant of travel. Unlike other cats that I know, once she's in her crate, she settles down and just voices occasional meows to make sure that you didn't forget that this is something that she dislikes.

Driving her to the aiport to put her on the flight was pretty sad, and it was very tough for me to leave her with the American Airlines people. I started tearing up as I was getting the paperwork filled out and was on the edge of crying when I left her there. :( It was very depressing. I had a tough drive home.

Fortunately she is now with my mom in FL, and is apparantuy adjusting pretty well. Mom said that the first night she spent the entire time hiding under the dresser, not under the bed, she was so traumatized. Since then, Mom has convinced her to come out on her own for love and scritching. She may be ready soon to get introduced to the kitty boys! I'm curious how it will turn out - the last time my kitty was introduced to a boy kitty, she swatted him across the face and drew blood. So we'll see how this turns out... Greg and I gave her some more boxing lessons before we sent her off, but I don't really think she needed them. :)

Travel and pets

I'm seriously bummed about needing to leave our cat behind. I love her to bits, she's a great cat, and I know she is going to be very stressed and unhappy about the entire situation. I think we have finally figured out what we need to do to get her sent off, now it is just a matter of picking a date and making the arrangements :(

There will be a few benefits to living pet free for a while though: no worries about having friends checking in on her, no midnight toe attacking sessions, and no involuntary dinner sharing!

It begins!

So, we've started telling people that we're taking off to go travel, and everyone wants to know if we're starting a blog. Well, here it is: the start of a blog...

We're still in the process of deciding where to go, how we're going to get there, and how much stuff we need to get rid of in the process. As of right now: to Australia via the Baja Ha-Ha on S/V Sagittaire, hopefully also via the Pacific Puddle Jump, and we're working on beginning the purge of our apartment. How much we need to get rid of will depend on where we can find storage... Oh, and we need to ship the cat off to my mom in FL. So much to do, so little time!
